Ponds
Water can bring a whole new dimension to your garden, providing a focal point of interest and beauty for you to relax by and enjoy.
If it's a pond you are considering, then maybe you have in mind a natural pond or one in which you can keep Koi or other fish, or possibly something of an ornamental nature.
It would be normal for a natural pond to be sunken, but fish or ornamental ponds can be either sunken or raised, so keep this in mind when considering your options.
A natural pond will provide a haven for wildlife, bringing you closer to nature in your own garden and a well designed and constructed pond of this type will require little maintenance.
If it's a fish pond you're thinking about, it will be necessary to consider the depths and volume of water required for the type of fish you are planning to keep and for the installation of filtration and aeration equipment to maintain the condition of the water.
A third alternative can be a purely ornamental pond into which you might install a fountain or some other type of water feature.
Once you have decided on the type of pond you want and its size, shape and position, in your garden then we need to consider the type of construction.
A sunken pond will be excavated to give the required depth of water below ground level. This will generate a considerable amount of excavated material which can be removed from site or used to create a raised rockery area by the pool or elsewhere in your garden.
A raised pond can be constructed within a brick or stone wall, with internal excavation only required if the depth of water in whole or in part needs to be below the ground level of the surrounding wall.
Finally the pond needs to be made watertight; to achieve this installing a moulded fibreglass shell is an option, or a more common method these days is to use a flexible liner of which there are a number of good quality options available.
SCP Landscapes will consider with you the design, construction and material options to meet your individual specification and provide for you a pond which will give lasting pleasure to you and your family for many years.
A note of caution
Any type of pond is a potential danger to young children, so if you have young children around you need to prevent them from access to it by constructing some form of barrier, or shelve the idea until they are old enough to understand the danger of water.
Water Features
As with a pond, a water feature will provide a point of interest in your garden and with the sound of gently running water, a peaceful area in which to relax.
A water feature is constructed with a sump to contain the water and an electric pump positioned in the sump to raise it to the highest point of the feature, allowing gravity to do the rest.
You may choose your particular feature from the many types and sizes available in garden centres and the like, or if you want something different we can work with you to design and construct something to suit your own preference.
Whether it's "off the shelf" or "bespoke", SCP Landscapes will prepare the site and install the feature for you.
